1943 – Flying Into War

On 18 August 1943, Leo Carter and 109 other air crew were ordered to ferry 11 B-24 Heavy Bombers from Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base in Fairfield, California (now Travis AFB), to Espiritu Santo, the largest island in the nation of Vanuatu in the southwest Pacific and on arrival report to the Commanding General, 13th Air Force Service Command for further orders.
