My family story just gets better and better. My maternal 4th great-grand-uncle, George Washington Davis, was not only in possession of the Mexican government-owned six-pounder which became the “Come And Take It Cannon” in the Fall of 1835. He was also one of the “Old Eighteen” who confronted one Mexican Lt. Francisco Casteneda and his dragoons, who had come to retrieve it as ordered by Domingo de Ugartechea and issued the now famous challenge.
