Green DeWitt was the head of the colony which my 5th Great-Grandfather Daniel Davis joined. Two of his sons – John Davis and George Washington Davis – were heroes of the Texas War for Independence from Mexico. George became one of the Old Eighteen and was for a while in possession of the Come And Take It cannon, which fired “The Texas Shot Heard Around The World” and which ultimately was sent by the Texians for use at the Alamo, where John Davis died on March 6 1836…
